Today, after my CT of 3 weeks ago had shown 'something' still in my neck, I received my PET scan results.
Could tell from the oncologist before we sat down that it wasn't all going to be good news. On the positive front I am now free of head and neck cancer - the cells that had shown up on my neck show no signs of activity so that's a big plus. Another big plus too was that I was able to have my RIG removed - fortunately much quicker to come out than it is to go in ! Very weird sensation that was too, but I definitely won't miss it
However, she did say there was a "but". The "but" came in the form of a couple of lymph nodes in my chest lighting up on the PET scan indicating some kind of activity. With that in mind I've now been referred to a chest specialist. My oncologist's feeling is that the lighting is likely to have been caused by inflammation from the radiotherapy treatment and the chest specialist she's spoken to think there's a good chance of that too. Of course because of the whole cancer thing now that they have seen it they can't just shrug their shoulders and say it's fine.
Looking like it's going to be camera down the throat in the next few weeks and possibly a biopsy from the nodes in my chest.
Just wondering if anybody else has been through similar after a PET scan and could share their experiences - good or bad - as I genuinely don't know what to think now. Had hoped to be celebrating last night and whilst things were mostly positive it still feels like a bit of a kick in the nuts !
Apologies if I sound over negative.
Hi
not quite like you but I had a hotspot where my cancer had been.
I had a biopsy and there was no cancer left.

I also had something similar - the PET scan was "inconclusive". I had another set of biopsies done, a further scan, and half an hour ago the news that it was all clear.
As I was advised by Beesuit and others, these folks know an awful lot by just looking. Fingers crossed for you.
Oh great news MAD MEG

Hi Try nit to worry until there’s something to worry about easy to say harder to do. Great news about the HNC scan showing nothing abnormal. Hope you aren’t kept waiting too long for camera and biopsy.
