Are you getting bunged up with mucous?
Try a nebuliser. They can help ease your throat and breathing. Cheap enough on Amazon.
Do you have a feeding tube or are you trying to eat?
Are you on top of pain? What analgesia are you taking.
It will ease but around now and the next week is about as bad as it’s going to be. Then things start improving.

I have a feeding tube . I have oromorph and soluble paracetamol but sometimes sipping water starts the coughing .thanks for help
You may be aspirating? Especially as water seems to set you off. Have a word with your speech and language. Trying to swallow something thicker might help. Are you doing your swallow exercises? Sorry for all the questions.

I am doing exercises will try something thicker and appointment with speech Monday thank-you
Hi I had a humidifier in bedroom and a nebuliser during daytime. I had to literally pull mucus out of my mouth at times. Have you been given swallow exercises to do I still do them 6 years on. Try a day putting everything in via peg and just rinse out out with water. It could be like Dani says you’re aspirating so contact cns.
