Thought I’d just put this little sunny picture up. The rainy winter seems to have been so long. If anybody else has something to warm the cockles please join the party
lovely to hear from you June, I hope everyone here gets to enjoy the spring and summer , I so appreciate it all in this wonderful place, the birdsong the blue tits on the food I’ve put out for them, life is getting there,my husband and I even went out for our 21st anniversary yesterday to the coast for a couple hours as can’t leave our five dogs too long, but it’s something we thought would never happen after last years turmoil, he had lunch I had a milkshake, still can’t eat bits only smooth food x
Hi Tiadora
Having the upper dentures now has made a difference and has greatly improved the way I look too. When I did not have any teeth I could only drink with a straw and eat puree. I have had to learn new ways now and can no longer use a straw (no suction) and now can only drink with a cup. Rather a lot of spillage out of the side of my mouth as my upper lip has all but disappeared but I go out prepared with kitchen roll and have learned to mop it up as I go. I am now able to eat food with more texture so can vary the diet more although I still find puree the easiest. I can manage to eat a biscuit now and that was completely off the table before I had the dentures. I have also managed one or two crisps. Not that healthy but a nice alternative sometimes. I have the option of more surgery for my top lip but am enjoying life too much so have put that on hold at the moment. At this stage I don't want another op that will put me back again. I am really happy with how things are at the moment although I don't look quite the same but I can cope with that.
At least I don't mind having my photo taken now as I absolutely refused before. Now I say 'just give me a moment to get my mouth right' and then the photo looks quite good.
The reconstructive surgery was definitely worth it.
What reconstructive surgery are they going to do for you?

Two surgeries I was told in York to get rid of the skin that has overlapped my flap in my mouth plus inserting the implants ready for my top dentures I have three implants already in my lower left where jaw was reconstructed with fibula, not sure what new hospital has in store for me yet but I’ll update as I go along x
Hi Tiadora
Sounds as though you have had a very similar experience to me. Was your cancer jaw cancer as well? It's just that there is nothing in your profile so I am not sure. I don't often get to compare notes with others who have had jaw cancer.
Best wishes for the surgeries.

got buzzed by a couple of Hawks....terrific.
We get them here in the Aeron valley. Sometimes when they are so low I have to clap my hands over my ears they give us a wiggle. We get Hercules flying at little more than treetop height and the big Eurofighters. Night exercises this week too.

Hi Tiadora
Snap, same as me 3 ops. 2 maxillectomies and one right partial mandibulectomy plus 2 lots of radiotherapy. The only teeth I have left are on my left mandible. They are coming in handy now as since I have my denture I have teeth that meet up so can now eat some texture. My mouth opening is quite limited only one finger width but it is wide enough to get a spoon in and clean my teeth. I have done jaw exercises for some time but can't get my jaw to open any further, but it is good enough. Dry mouth from the radio is also a bit of an issue but with dry mouth gel such as Biotene make it manageable although annoying. Taste changes still there from the radio and is probably not going to change but I have found alternative tastes that work O.K. The dribble from the right side of my mouth when I drink is probably the most annoying thing. It took a while to adapt to the changes but all in all life is good for me and I am enjoying life to the max. I love gardening, belong to the local Bonsai society, volunteer at the library for 2 sessions a week and love helping out with my grandkids. What more could you ask for.
I do hope that the wait for dentistry is not too long for you. Having those new dentures will make a real difference. Please let me know how you get on.
Sending you my very best wishes.
