I've left it a little before updating why? I just thought I'd run with the recovery and add to this forum when the story to recovery was a little bit fuller.

I'm now 4 weeks post partial tounge glastomey and neck disection at Addenbrooks and its been a steady upward curve to be fair. Surgery (8hrs) went as expected wounds are healing well (some stubborn fly away stitches clinging on) , eating and speech are well advanced, much to my and family and friends surprise. All the Consultants and team are pleased, so on the whole good progress.

So we came to the histology results appointment. A crossroads treatment or no more treatment.  Well the git hasn't spread so good sign number 1. Tuma recatigorised from T1 to T2, no issue its not spread. So outcome ? I start 6 weeks radio 15 Jan, mask fit 4 Jan. Not a set back and I am keen that those around me don't see it as a setback, it was always a posability (further treatment) so it's just a path on the journey.

I'm now minus 1 tooth and waiting for the 4th to start the next step of this journey.  Big thanks yous are heart felt to my fantastic wife, family and friends and especially to the team at Addenbrooks who have been brilliant in treatment and support. So onwards and upwards and as a good friend once said "No surrender"

  • Hi

    Thank you for the update.

I have a friend who was faced with the same. Glossectomy and Neck Dissection followed by RT

    She has done well.

It's a challenging treatment and there will be hard times but listen to your body, do what your team tells you, stay with us for advice and you'll get there.

    Well done

    Best wishes

  • Hi  I remember when things all got start to be put in place, I felt so much better about it all, hopefully you do too. As you probably already know the treatment does come with good results, be sure to tell your team about any side effects you may get along the way, they will give you something for them. I'm sure you have no intention of surrendering. Any questions just ask. All the best for your treatment.

  • Hi BL755 I see you have gone for the belt and braces approach surgery first then RT and Chemo. I had the RT and Chemo and then a neck dissection about a year later after someone  crashed into the back of my van. That was just over a year ago. Can I recommend Audible books to pass the time and just remember this time will pass. All the Best regards Minmax

  • Hi BL755

I had a Glossectomy and Neck Dissection followed by chemo x 2 and RT x 30. Once I stopped the opiods I drove myself everyday except chemo days and I was fine until 2 days after everything finished when my body just went to sleep for a couple of days. I couldn't eat or drink anything for 4 weeks so used the PEG but I got through it, it's hard but doable.
