New RIG started weeping/oozing/leaking. Phoned 24hr helpline who said I needed to present at A&E - not what I wanted to hear. 5hrs later I got home with antibiotics and changed dressing. As usual, hugely tiring process but met the usual mix of inspirational characters.
i have a pre radiotherapy meeting on Monday and private healthcare company nurses coming round on Tuesday to help me learn to live with tube and maintain etc. Treatment due to start a week on Monday. Im getting Iquite wiorried that the wound is now quite sore and I can’t work out if it’s infected or I’m just exhausted - or possibly both.
will keep taking antibiotics and see how it’s all looking by Monday.

Hi Steve. These tubes do take a week or so to settle. I didn’t have one but I know others who got stomach cramps too and Buscopan helped. Best wishes

Hi Steven, like Dani has said they can take a while to settle. Mine got sore after it had been in about a week, I thought it was infected, but it wasn't, it was just what happens, I was told. When they take the stitches out, you will be surprised the difference it will make.
Ray.
Thanks Ray, I don’t think I’ve got stitches in mine (it’s a RIG). I don’t feel great. If I have a cup of coffee it seeps out the hole ! I’m going to phone.the specialist nurse. I’mve got a pre radiotherapy appointment tomorrow with treatment due to start a week later.
I appreciate your help - I was getting in a bit of a state and you’ve kind of normalised it for me. Thanks
Steven
It will have settled befire you start.. Hang on in there

Hi, I had a PEG - no stitches. It did ooze especially after eating and drinking. Someone on here accurately described it as ‘snot’…! They failed at the first insertion attempt so I end up having the PEG in just a few days before treatment started. It was sore getting on and off the table - but the RT teams are amazing and know exactly how to help. I had an Abbott Nirse come out who warned me of infection but it all settled down after a couple of weeks including the snot which went down to a tiny seep! So, hopefully your experience will be the same.
Good luck with it.

As an update to this. I went back into hospital for radiologist to look at my tube. It seems the ‘balloon’ wasn’t going its job and was too far away from the stomach wall. The tube was gently pulled through and it worked short term. At the moment I do it myself very gently day to day. It’s slightly infected and I’m on abiotics. Probably delaying the start time of my treatment. Im waiting to hear back about that. It’s been a bit of a difficult week and I feel ready to get started with treatment but I’d like to start with a clean slate. Thanks for the support and info I got in response to my post.
they say to give it a week and either carry on with this or replace the tube. I’m doing ax I’m told and willing if to heal.

Hi Steve everything x for you. If you have to have a weeks delay it’s not the end ,plus point maybe you can still eat Christmas dinner if you get a delay ! I’m not making light of the situation.

Thanks Hazel, yeah I’m fine with or without Christmas dinner I definitely want to go into treatment in as good shape as possible. I was more worried that when I mentioned it to the nursing teamey hadn’t thought that a delay is probably inevitable! I’m worried about sepsis n stuff. I should just stay calm.
