PEG has been in place for 16 weeks, not been used for the last 7 weeks (apart from daily flushing).

Finally had PEG removed today at Ninewells Hospital Dundee, was a wee bit apprehensive about the procedure but needn't have worried, slight sharp pain for about 2 seconds when PEG was pulled out, dressing Then applied by nurse (Kirsty)  who explained every step and answered every concern, whole thing was over in 10-15 minutes.

  • Great news Peter. A lot of people worry about the removal. Hopefully this will put them in a better frame of mind about it. Glad your recovery is going well

  • Hi Dani

I must admit that I was a bit concerned about PEG removal, only minor discomfort during removal, hospital staff were fantastic.

  • I was wondering how much it would hurt when it was removed as they messed mine up putting it in which made it a stupidly long procedure that hurt like hell. Thanks Blush

  • So glad to read this, as I desperately want the PEG removed but was a bit worried about the procedure. I've not used it at all aside from the daily flushing.  Good to hear that it's quick and relatively painless process.

  • How long did it take for the tube site to heal? I had my PEG removed today (I think it's called the pull and push method). Was over in seconds.  I'm very leaky now though (gah!) which they said is completely normal. I asked about precautions etc and Dr ordered relaxation and fun as I've been through so much over the last months! Nice sentiment but any top tips on managing the removal, most welcome!

  • Leakage lasted for a couple of days....kept site clean and dry, treated with Sudocrem... just back from Tenerife where I swam daily...no problems with the PEG site.

  • Had my PEG removed today and you're right only took about 30 seconds lol so happy it's out!!

  • Good news Dee. Lots of people get into a real tizz about it. I can point nervous patients to this thread in future.
