Hi Everyone,
I am 9 months post treatment. I had right sided tonsil Cancer stage one, node one. Surgery followed bye radiotherapy which I finished in Dec 2022. Overall I am doing well and am fortunate to have no evidence of disease. But my anxiety It is horrendous. If I get a cough I have myself dead and buried. If I get a sore throat or any type of symptoms I think it's a recurrence. How did everyone deal with life after treatment?.
Linda
Hi Linda
It’s rubbish, isn’t it ? But it does get better. Keep busy and keep off Google. Your CNS won’t mind you contacting them with any worries if you’re desperate.
Macmillan have a few tips here
And they offer free counselling.
It’s an offer that lots if people here have taken up and it’s been if great help

Do you have a Maggie’s near your hospital? They are great places to drop in and chat. Worth thinking about
If you can’t sleep it might be worth contacting your GP for some mild sleeping tablets.
I promise. Life does get better

Hi Linda
Great advice from Dani. Time does help a lot as well and the anxiety gradually recedes as life gets back to normal or as normal as it can be. I went through all the anxieties you are going through and as Dani says it does get better. I found keeping busy helped take my mind of things although it doesn't hurt to get anything that you are concerned about checked out just to put your mind at rest.
Start to make a few plans for the future such as a holiday and work towards those plans. That will open the future for you and help you to start living your life again.

Thanks so much . It's reassuring I am normal. You are so right about Google
Hi
It’s normal to have anxiety. I took advantage of the 6 free counselling sessions, it really helped. I think I was driving my family mad, as any little pain etc, I was convinced it was back. Danni and Hazel helped enormously with their support and good advice. It does get better, I just live each day, as that’s all we can do. I am back cycling and competing in Triathlons, it gives me something else to focus on
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
