Hi,
I was treated in summer 2020 for a large, HPV driven, base of tongue/tonsil tumor. Whilst I also had bilateral lymph node involvement and a delay in getting to a diagnosis, due to the pandemic. I had a really good response to 6 weeks of chemoradiation and all scans/scopes have been clear for 3 years.
unfortunately despite the hospital saying it was really unlikely/ rare for an HPV tumor to spread distantly, this is the situation I find myself in. I start chemotherapy next week or so.
Thankfully I know most people are cured after their first treatment but if anyone else has had a distant recurrence of an HPV driventumor & also wondered what treatment anyone else has through.
many thanks for reading,
stay well,
Hi Nolton9 sorry to hear about your reoccurrence there’s one if 2 on here who have had immunotherapy and one girl on a vaccine trial. At the moment there’s quite a lot of progress being made in the head and neck cancer reoccurrence field. Especially by Vin Paleri at the Royal Marsden hospital. Not sure where you are but you can ask for a referral or 2 nd opinion. If you don’t mind telling us where as the tumour metastasis? Please keep in touch we will all be here ti offer assistance if we can.

I’ll echo Hazel. Get a second opinion as to whether you are eligible for any trials. There are a few. I know somebody who started off here on the forum and was offered only chemotherapy and it failed.

Hi, yes I’ve had a reoccurrence with mets to the lungs.. I’d been clear nearly two years. I’m now on a clinical trial along with immunotherapy at the RMH. The clinical trial that includes a vacci that targets HPV driven cancers. I’m about to have my third round but obviously have no idea if it’s working yet, will only know after my scan. That said, there is always hope
