Hello I am new to this forum and not sure if anyone has covered this before.
I had a follow up appointment last week and the Radiotherapy Specialist said I was on the wrong pain meds (Fentanyl and Oramorph) and should be on nerve blockers, she said however it is a good sign as it means the nerves in my face and neck are growing back, despite me complaining about acute pain for the past 8 months to my Consultant. It was Oct 2021 when my Treatments finished and I have been on these pain meds ever since. The new pain meds are Gabapentin Tillomed 100mg and the dose will increase potentially every 3 weeks until I am on 300mg capsules. The specialist said it would add to my fatigue however it has really knocked me out, I felt like a zombie all weekend and having to work today has made it worse, anyone have tips for how best to manage as I have just reduced my Fentanyl to 25mg patches as well. Thanks for any guidance or advice. Andrew
Hi Andrew. I had radiation fatigue the only way I could handle it was listen to my body don’t try ti fight it. The fatigue wins every time. I became adept at the 20 minute Power Nap.I went to bed fully clothed got under duvet and fell asleep I found doing thus I could then continue with my life. It’s harder obviously when you’re working but maybe you have a quiet area yiu coujd go to ir a fryend if mine used to go straight to bed when he came in from work he is a bricklayer so manual work. He was treated same time as me . Hope it helps. Good luck with new medication.

Thank you Hazel my Radiotherapy finished in Oct 2021, I would hope the effects would fade, but I have been tired for soo long, adding to the existing fatigue has been tough. Will definitely take your advice and try and get a few power naps in. Honesty my work were amazing as I had 18 months off work, they will be understanding if I take a few 20 mins out of my day!!
Really appreciate your support. Andrew
Thanks Dani. Until I saw my specialist last week I have not had any contact from my nurses since Jan 2022, they are due to phone me tomorrow to check on how the pain meds are going. I will definitely mention pain clinics. Appreciate your support again. Andrew
