Steve: Tonsil Cancer HPV16. Discharged 14 March. Now on regular checks.
Well, I finished my treatment on the 20 January, and I was discharged on the 14 March. Since then I have been on follow up appointments. A few weeks ago the consultant didn't see anything untoward, and life has been getting back to normal.
Next week, however, I have my first MR scan to look deeper at me post-treatment. I am so apprehensive. What if the cancer is still there? I am very worried about this first big follow up. Any thoughts.
Stephen
Hi Steve. Recurrence this early is very unlikely and as you know HPV positive cancer has an excellent cure rate. It doesn’t help the scanxiety I know. My 12 week MRI was clear but my 16 week PET/CT showed a hot spot. Biopsy was clear. These things happen but I’ll just go back to this cancer being eminently curable. Hang on in there. It will be over soon.

Morning Steve
It's so hard not to stress about it, it's only natural, and as said so many times it's the not knowing that's the worst.
But as you say nothing untoward has been found and your life is getting back to normal, so things are looking good.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you and wish you luck.
