Another MRI scan

Following a Fluroscopy some weeks back I was referred by ENT for another Throat and neck MRI.  I have had to chase around for a week to get them results!  'No reoccurrence or significant change' but we need to see you 'as a matter of urgency'  no appointment given! So more chasing them up.  I'm concerned that I have seen posts on here giving people the 'all clear' and then they are told something different.

I have now lost over 3 stone, I am under SALT team who can't do anything until they have MRI results. They suggested that I don't 'eat' because of the swallowing issue which could result in a serious choking and aspiration problem.  I am now 5 months post treatment, have 6 week checks and an MRI scan. Haven't had a blood test for at least 3 months.   To be honest I am becoming really frightened by all this.  Can I trust these results???  They keep saying its 'early days' and despite a fair amount of progress the fact I am unable to eat beyond a weetabix is scaring the life out me.  I have no energy, no muscle, no stamina and am absolutely exhausted.  Despite the "I want to be 9 stone dream" that I now am, I absolutely shocking.

I cannot seem to be able to contact my Macmillan nurse, she is incredibly busy, but it's unusual.  Be interested to hear your experiences.   Hoping you are getting on.

  • Hi. Can you drink shakes? I had Scandishakes on prescription - 600 calories each. Can you contact your GP or hospital?

  • Hi Pauline

I am sorry to hear all the worry you are going through.

Your lack of nutrition really needs to be addressed urgently. Has your SALT team suggested taking dietary supplements such as Fortisip or Ensure to see you through. You can live on these alone without eating solid food if necessary as long as you take enough. Your speech pathologist or dietician should be able to tell you how many you need as you can’t afford to lose any more weight, no wonder you have no stamina and are fatigued.

Hope you can get some early help from them or at least some advice from your Macmillan nurse. Keep trying her until you get a result.

  • Alfienangel You need to get your nutrition sorted out asap as you will only go down hill without it. All the Best Regards Minmax
