Hi there, its me again. I am13 week post chemo/radiotherapy for left tonsil and right left lymph node cancer. I am continuing to have nipping pain on the left side of my throat where the tonsil was radiated. My throat was slightly bleeding last week but seems to have stopped now. I am eating much more, which is good but have noted increased pain. I have spoken to my oncologist about this and she did not seem over concerned. Another factor is that I have noted the increased pain since ceasing fentanyl patches 12 mcg. I was wandering if the area where the tonsil is, is struggling to heal and also if I have come of fentanyl too early given 13 weeks post treatment. I am continuing to with morphine and pregabalin. The rest of my mouth is quite clean now but I am nattering that the cancer has not been eradicated in to tonsil area. I also have my PET scan on the 30th March so wandering if I am starting to get pre-scan anxiety. I was wandering if it usual at this stage to have a particular area that remains painful and also wandered if I have ceased fentanyl too early. Sorry if it seems a lot of anxiety in this post. Cheers.

  • Hi Shaun. It all sounds normal. I was on morphine till 12 weeks and my RT was at the base of my tongue where there aren’t any nerve endings. Relax. You’ve had a lot of treatment to one area and it takes a long time to heal.

  • Hi. I had surgery followed by chemoradiation for tonsil & lymph node hpv cancer. It takes a long time for healing to take place. I was on paracetamol, codeine & morphine for weeks. Even now at 10 months post treatment my throat has days when it feels sore. I can feel the scar tissue when I swallow most days. Try not to worry. Scanxiety is normal - we all get it.

  • Thanks Dani, as always it helps to put things out here. I kinda know deep down but sometimes my inpatient nature and anxiety lets loose a bit. This site is a real leveler and I am grateful to the amazing people on here, so cheers.

  • Hi Blod, Scanxiety that's a good word to describe how I am feeling. Thanks for the reply regards healing. Guess I am just wanting things to happen more quickly but realistically things take time. Cheers.

  • Any questions just ask. Be patient with yourself & the process. Healing takes time.
