Well after 9 months since the start of my treatment for base of tounge/ throat cancer the news is not good, unfortunatly despite chemo and radiotherapy (more pain than ive ever endured) it has now not only not cured it but it has spread to my lungs.

So im stage 4 with no hope of surviving this, i am refusing any life extending treatment as id rather not delay the inevitable.

Many people dont understand my choice but id rather not feel ill again just to get an extra few months.

My throats already sore again and i can feel it in my chest now.

Its time to make the most of the time i have left.

  • Lee, I’m so sorry. I’m sure you have considered all options put  before you before coming to your decision. I will add though that I know a couple of forum members who did go on to immunotherapy. One is doing well and still posts here and another got a good three years. Yet others are on new trials.
I wish you peace and some quality time. These read like simply words but they are heartfelt. Xx

  • Sad read Lee.

My mum made a similar decision in 2016, and we spent the months she had left making some great memories; was a special time.

Quality of life over quantity is the right decision for many, so I completely understand your choice; enjoy yourself.

  • Hi Lee. I’m so sorry to hear this. I can’t add anymore than what’s already been said. My thoughts are with you and your family

  • So sorry to hear this. I hope you get chance to enjoy what time you have left xxx

  • I am sorry to hear this, but totally understand you approach to this.  I often discuss my views on life's last phases (although I am not there yet) and would wholeheartedly concur that a few months of good quality is worth many months of poor quality life.  I hope the palliative care teams can give you some good pain free time to be with family and friends.

Thinking of you, and hoping for the best over the next few months.

  • There are no words that are satisfactory to use which would bring you much comfort but I sincerely wish you and your family some quality time in this stage.
