Hello all,

Well, I'm through week 8 and my consultant says that they do not need to see me for five weeks. Most things are getting easier, swallowing and less mucus, but I have noticed I am getting quite dizzy after light exercise, gardening,  or walking uphill. Has anyone else had this?

  • Yes.

I had to be mindful in the first few weeks  and not do too much too quickly

It’s quite normal. RT can affect your balance and your blood pressure. If that’s happening just ease up on the exercise and be careful how quickly you get up from sitting.
It might be useful to check your BP yourself through the day.

  • Hi Steve

I too went through a time of getting very light headed after radiotherapy. The slightest thing would set me off but particularly if I put my head down to pick up something or if I stood up too quickly. I learned to stand for a few seconds after I stood up to let my blood pressure normalize as the light headedness would lock in a few seconds after I started to walk otherwise. I found that it did pass over time but am still a bit inclined to low blood pressure still. I have to make sure that I drink plenty of fluids as even if I am slightly dehydrated I start to get dizzy. Maybe my age is now a factor (I am 69) but I do think that the radiotherapy has played a large part with the issue.

It definitely improves over time although with me I still have to keep an eye on it. Most of the time there is no issue.

  • Hi Steve - I am "glad" you posted that - I am 2 weeks end of RT today and noticed the same - mine has been more after being sat down for a bit in say the car. The exercise is sometimes connected I suspect but not always.

  • Remember your brain and ears have  taken a hit and you’re in a hyper metabolic state needing lots of calories. All these contribute
