Hi Everyone,
All my pre treatment bits done, just waiting for my first RT next Thursday 3rd. A little bit apprehensive and I'm not good at waiting, so thought I'd pop in here to 'ramble' at you lovely people I don't have anyone to talk 'at', so I hope you don't mind.
I was hoping to make the most of the time left to have some tasty food before I can't. However, the hygienist was a bit rough and my teeth are so sensitive now, it's hard to enjoy anything. Sods law I guess , or a mild taste of whats to come ! I am using the high fluoride toothpaste and it is starting to ease a bit. Funny thing is, I don't really feel like eating anyway, you know when you just don't fancy anything!
My tattooed dot has turned into a splodge because I bled so much (warfarin). Might just be partially bruising? Hope it isn't going to be a problem, they seem keen to start treatment. The hospital rang yesterday because they were possibly going to fit a PEG, but the lady that does it is on leave and they didn't want to delay my start. So, it will be NG if needed.
I've had to use up my excess annual leave, so I have a bit of leisure time before it all starts proper. I've spent loads trying to make things more comfortable...New sofa, TV in bedroom, microwave etc. Have to stop now! Just a few bits to get, like soft toothbrush, mouthwash etc but no more household items!
It still doesn't feel like it's happening to me, so I'm calmer than my work mates expect me to be...not sure if that's good or bad
Anyway, best go and forage for something to eat. Thanks for listening x
Hi Linda. I had Caphosol. I would have added it to my list but just couldn’t get the word in my head.. Age. You should get it free. I used half a tablet made up as a mouthwash four times a day

Hi Lindy Loo,
Firstly, to wish you all the best with your treatment. As you will be aware, it is tough but doable.
I also tried Corsodyl but found it very astringent and moved to the Daily version. However as treatment progresses your mouth will become more sensitive and I then tried Biotene.
I too had a binge on certain foods prior to treatment especially gourmet burgers which quite ironic as I now struggle to tolerate much meat post treatment ( not really an issue as my wife is vegetarian anyway).
I did lose over 12 kg during treatment and relied on a RIG tube for my Fortisips.
Great idea to make all the preparations to make you comfortable during the RT and recovery as you will feel very tired and lethargic. I found e- books very useful however kept losing the plot when I dosed off!
All the best
- John
Hi John,
Thank you. I'm trying not to think too much about the side effects, I am aware of what may/probably will happen but no point second guessing it, I'll deal with it if/when it happens
My bathroom already looks like the dental section of a pharmacy and that's before I've started! I looked through my goodie bag from the nurse last night and found 2 x packs of Caphosol that I had mentioned that the dentist had recommended...doh! With what I will no doubt be given next week, I think I'm ready
Hitting the supermarket tomorrow, will try to stick to a list! But will definitely be indulging in chips and bread (not had those in such a long time) oh and ice cream of course...and that'll do me
I have an endless supply of ebooks from Amazon Prime and the tv. Not sure how long I'll be able to keep walking the dog for, but I have plans in place for the critters if it gets too much for me.
So, I'm going to chill (hopefully) for the last few days before it all kicks off.
Thank you, I hope you have recovered well.
Linda

I started with a shelf which expanded to a whole bathroom cabinet then a dresser drawer.

Hi Lindyloo I started my chemo radiotherapy this last week. Like you I had plans to use the week before to go on a journey of food pleasure to see me over the coming months, but had to go and get a PEG fitted so that put paid to that...I have to say I was absolutely unreasonably furious. However here I am in week 1 of treatment and everything is tasting of metallic fish or something similar. However I have just had a fruit cocktail trifle which was delish. Anyhow I am getting distracted. I wanted to say good look getting started and keep us updated :-)

Try using plastic cutlery. That can sometimes help. It’s the platinum in the chemo that’s responsible.

Hi KJK,
Thank you so much. I was supposed to be getting a PEG fitted...apparently...but the person who does it was on leave and they didn't want to delay my start. Not sure if I'm happy or sad about that...so NG it is, hoping I wont need it but expecting it!
I bought some scrummy food I've denied myself for ages and I don't fancy any of it now, even chocolate is so unappetising, I've not had any. Think I'm getting a bit OCD about keeping my mouth clean!
Oh no, not fish...yuk, poor you! I hope the rest of your treatment isn't too bothersome. Bit pants isn't it!
Best wishes, take care
