Hi everyone. My mouth has gone very dry now after mucus has finished. I now have lots of ulcers on back of throat. I used my Durophat toothpaste a couple of times and I think it was just too strong for my mouth yet)I have been using Oronurse). Any tips please as my eating going well and now so painful again! Many thanks

Hi Lizzie. Welcome to the dry mouth club . Yes the mucus goes to be replaced with dry mouth. I was prescribed gelclair I had ulcers full, length of my t tongue and inside my cheeks unfortunately the treatment caused our mucosal linings to be susceptible to ulcers. Also you need alcohol free mouth wash I swear by bioxtra again in prescription. Keep away from anything slightly acidic stick to,plain things where you can . Yes duraphat can irritate so use oranurse like you are doing
also try baking powder rinse for mouth it may sting . For later when you have some saliva xyimelt s at night are very good. Remember to keep hydrated and on top,of oral hygiene. Watch out for oral thrush as well oh they joys.

Hi Hazel
As you know I am now going on 2 years post my treatment and ulcers can still be an issue.
A few weeks ago I suddenly developed mouth ulcers and had to go through a process of elimination to try and figure out why as I had not had any real issues up until now. I started to eliminate one by one the things that I thought might have caused the issue. I stopped using my electric toothbrush and went back to a soft toothbrush but that did not make any difference. I then stopped using the extra fluoride toothpaste and went back to the toothpaste for dry mouth that I had used previously and that did not make any difference. I then stopped using the Xylimelts at night time as the ulcers seemed to coincide with where I placed them. Bingo, that was the problem. Where I leant on my pillow the Xylimelts were pressing into my cheek and rubbing which was causing the ulcers. If I moved the Xylimelts to another position in my mouth I had the same result.
I have stopped using the Xylimelts during the night now and have started using a dry mouth spray and taking small sips of water and this seems to be working. No more ulcers at the moment so I am happy. I loved the Xylimelts as they really helped with my dry mouth during the night and would still highly recommend them. I use them during the day now and that is working out well.
It does sometimes take a process of elimination.

Hi Lynn yes it’s elimination. We’re over in Spain at min ive had a spate of the tiny white ulcers on my tongue. Stopped anything tomato based and they’ve gone. Which is annoying as many things are tomato based. Touch wood I’m fine still with my 1/2 a xyimelt at night time. Yes it’s scary how time is passing glad you are doing well.

Hi Hazel
Hope you are having a great holiday. ‘Spain’ I’d love to visit there one day. I would have thought that maybe a lot of the recipes in Spain would have tomatoes in them but maybe that’s Italy. That’s a pity that you have to cut them out, hope you find a suitable substitute.
I was just going to try drinking tomato juice for something different as currently I can only manage the taste of water and some milk drinks. Sweet drinks taste awful to me. Hope I don’t get the same result as you.
Thinking of you lounging on the (hopefully) sunny beaches in Spain

How about trying ginger ale? The spicy taste can balance the sweetness? I’m getting daily pictures of Hazel in the sunshine. It’s pouring with rain here

Hi Hazel
The tomato juice seemed to work O.K. for me so that is something else I can add to my list of drinks. Danni suggested trying ginger ale but I have already tried that and it is the fizzy bubble in it that I can’t manage.
Yes you are right I am living in South Australia. We are currently in spring with a mixed bag of weather. Had a hail storm the other day which was out of the blue and not something we don't get very often. Today, beautiful sunny weather to make up for it.
Wow 60 k.m. s that’s a long way to ride. Good on you.
What a great photo you are looking very relaxed

Hi Lyn....I think cooking does something to tomatoes to make them astringent in our early days. Fresh blitzed tomatoes seem much kinder. In that vein strawberry/banana smoothies might go down OK to.
While you're online....do you ever see Jarrah honey in your locale?

Hi Lynn great you’ve found something else .Have you tried peach juice? I find over in Spain that’s ok. Flat Diet Coke if you can’t do bubbles. Poor you soda water is my go to drink. I can also manage an alcohol free beer.
Enjoy Sorung and think of us in the U.K. approaching winter when we return home soon.
Yes it’s very relaxing here but the real world of home beckons. Not too bad as we’re back here fingers x March.
