Hi All, update for tim(wanna play guitar) diagnosis Tonsillar cancer (right) HPV +16 T2N1M0 Last year. Completed treatment 5/3/21  with 6 x Chemo. Cisplatin plus 30 rads.

Week 18 post treatment.

Hi All, GOBSMACKER for me this week!

Here’s the scene:

Tim waiting nervously by the phone for call from Consultant

Phone rings on schedule- adrenal glands working frantically.

Consultant asks how I am?

I reply, very apprehensive.

She asks Why?

I say the fear of the results from my PET/CT Scan as there is no place for cancer to hide with this type of scan.

She replies your scan is “COMPLETELY CLEAR”

I reply………*#@&%+=/£&@ ……….. literally cannot get any words out. Then proceeded to talk gobbledegookgook.

The relief made me and all my family break out into tears ? PHEW what a relief.

I thanked her profusely for the Oncology plan she had made and executed for me and she sounded very pleased with me and for me

I’d actually convinced myself I had cancer in virtually every part of my body. My screwed up mind had played havoc with my senses and feelings all week and had one the mental battle.

So, treatment success. Let’s pray for us all that it we get to this stage.  Anyway, fantastic for me!

Meanwhile, H&N cancer doesn’t let you off the hook that easily. Here’s my side effects resume for this week:

MIND: Significantly relieved !!!

FATIGUE. Still tiresome, but understandably not been sleeping well at all this week.

MOUTH: Still sore tongue and inner lips but the salt/bicarbonate help.

TASTE: Still very poor with glimpses of taste every so often which fades in and out as it pleases.

XEROSTOMIA: Nil improvement this week and my saliva seems very watery. Xylimelts help short term.

LYMPHODEMA: No change. I’m still doing the massage and exercises which work. Waiting for an appointment at the clinic.

Well folks, a milestone for me this week. I’ll pray for everyone in a similar situation as it’s not a place you want to be with results hanging over you.

Have a restful, healthy week to all.

Best Wishes  Tim

  • Brill news. You can relax now.

Don't let any negative thoughts creep in and get on with recovery. You're in remission, Tim so well done

The euphoria does wear off and doubts set in but they are groundless and will disappear in time.

  • Absolutely fantastic news Tim. I am delighted for you!! I can imagine the relief you are feeling and it makes the gruelling treatment worth it.

I completely understand how you have felt mentally because it is weighing heavily on me too, I am now 12 weeks post treatment so have a bit to go before my scan.

What a celebration for you and the family this weekend, let’s hope England win tomorrow, that would make it a weekend to remember

  • Hi Tim and ….. breathe … wont say told you so but told you do. Take  a few days for the news to sink in and onwards and upwards from here. Shame it had to be via a phone call the oncologist s  do all that hard work and I still remember the joy in my oncologist s fave as he told me the good nees. Bet a lot of your ongoing issues dissipate over next few weeks. Maybe not the dry mouth but it does get better.
    really pleased for you
