Hi All
Realised I need a new Subject title as this old one no longer relevant.
Just dropping by with some good news received today. Hubby had his third video fluroscopy swallow test today (almost 11 weeks from the radical neck dissection) and he has been cleared by SPLT to start eating a pureed diet and with a modified swallowing technique can start drinking liquids. He has a long way to go before being able to going out for a meal but it certainly is a big step forward for him. It will improve the quality of his life tremendously and help him feel more like his 'old' self. We will be able to go out and just stop for a drink somewhere and not have to hide away in the back of the car to put liquid down the feeding tube - no mean feat juggling that.
The SPLT was in her own words 'buzzing' as all the MDT were convinced that the unsafe swallowing would not improve given the extent of the Op and that the feeding tube was going to be permanently in place. It may still have to be but if he can continue to maintain or improve what he has now then it may be banished to the bin in the future.
Happy Bunnies all round in our household today.
Hope that MikeO's swallow test was as good as Hubby's today and if not Mike then take heart, don't give up until you really really have too.

Margaret that is such wonderful news. I remember how bleak the outlook seemed in your earlier posts. While there is a will there is a way, eh?
So pleased. You both deserve some luck and congratulations on your tenacity.
Let us know how things go.
