This Thursday was meant to be our 5 year appointment.
It's now a phone appointment. I understand why but can't help but feel upset - I'm guessing a face to face check will be planned for later in the year
I'd worry if my husband was discharged without one. A phone call just isn't enough
Completely understand you feelings Twiglet, it's a momentous occasion....or at least it should be. I don't think for a moment your hubby will be discharged over the phone but in the unlikely event that it's suggested make it plain that you want to have a face to face when safe. I can't imagine them saying no.
Even once discharged all it takes in my experience is a word from my GP and I'm seen within days, the team will always be there for you; personally I've twice had concerns post discharge and been in out patients in no time at all, feeling a bit like royalty because everyone knows you comes for a chat if they spot you in the waiting room. On one occasion my "named nurse" wasn't even on duty for the clinic but spotted my name on the list and left whatever ward she was on to come down and see me, she sat chatting for 15/20 mins and then even came into the appointment with me. Really moving occasion.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Thank you Mike
We'll insist on another appointment, just for peace of mind, and to see all of the staff who have been so amazing from day 1
I can't believe how fast the time has gone
Take care, Sue
Totally agree with MikeO on this one Twiglet, as i was very much like him when a quick check-up was needed my team were there by the next clinic. It does become like a bit of an emotional reunion and I remember when I was signed off after 10 years i cried alongside my wife. nurse and consultant. So deffo press for a proper face to face its so much better. Best wishes.
