Hello brave and gorgeous people.

Im just looking for any advice to stop me losing my s*** in abject terror.

I saw gp 9 wks ago with voice, short of breath, hoarseness and general pain and a thick feeling like there’s a hand round the front of my throat.

2 weeks different antibiotics. Then saw different doc who said throat looked fine but sent 2ww, was told no slots until after 6wks so saw someone privately ( rather be skint than anxious) who said nasolaryngoscopy showed nothing sinister, one vocal cord completely paralysed, other barely working. See how it goes.

Saw him again last week about the possibility of some bioplastic build up on the completely paralysed one but due to the length of time and not knowing what’s caused it, he wants a base of skull and thorax ct first.

I wondered why and, unfortunately, googled it. Sorry. Seems as though most likely cause is 50% plus malignant tumours.

Has anyone had a similar experience please? What was the outcome? How did you cope.

Paradoxically, I feel like knowledge is power. I can cope with facts just not with anxiety.

Thank you xx

  • Should say no voice, not voice.

  • Kirsten, How old are you and are you a smoker and drinker?
I ask because unlike the usual HPV driven oropharyngeal cancer most of us have suffered the main drivers of larynx cancer are the aforementioned.
Your ENT is just being careful because he can’t see anything on scope.
90% of referrals for HNC are not cancer so hold onto that. I know waiting is pants but you don’t know till you know.
    Fingers crossed.

  • Hi. I gave up smoking two years ago. Used to drink quite heavily about 20 years ago. Only have three or four a week now.

I’ve no family history as I’m adopted.

    Thanks for replying x
