Hi everyone,
I'm Beth a 36 year old dental nurse (can you believe it), so I'm pretty aware when it comes to looking for signs of oral cancer.
I have had LLETZ treatment before due to an abnormal smear and I found out I had HPV 16 and 18. Glorious. Anyway thay was nearly 4 years ago and I got the all clear from pre cancer cells there.
Fast forward to 4 months ago when I found what I thought was a traumatic ulcer from my lower molars on the right lateral border of my tongue..
I aren't currently working at the moment as I've not long since helped my mum through Nasopharyngeal cancer ️
Anyway I gargled salt water like I always have in the past and was expecting it to go away. Nope. This little bugger is not shifting. One of my dental surgeon friends took some of the sharp parts of my lower right 5,6 & 7 off. We were sure we'd eliminated the cause of it, nope. It tries to heal, blisters up and then goes pure white and then the cycle repeats. It also has a small 'crate?' in the centre. Needless to say I have an appointment on Tuesday for a biopsy.
I'm just introducing myself really and seeing if anyone else has similar?
Hi UnicornRider
At least you are on top of this quickly. Just to say that there is no link between cervical HPV and Oropharyngeal and there it is usually associated with the tonsils and the back of the tongue where there is tonsil tissue.
You don't know till you do so fingers crossed for you. Let's hope you don't need us but if you do there is plenty of help here and I can point you in the direction of another very useful group that helps young people with tongue cancer

Hi Beth, good luck with your biopsy on Tuesday and I hope your results are ok. I’m just introducing myself incase you need any advice. I also started my journey with an ulser after having lychen planus for years.(sorry about spelling!). Unfortunately I needed two ops on my tongue, a neck dissection and RT. I’m nearly 1 year past RT now which surprisingly enough has gone pretty quick.
This forum has really helped with my recovery and you get the best tips and advice should you need it but hopefully you won’t!

Good luck with your biopsy and fingers crossed it’s nothing serious. As a fellow nurse it’s a difficult position we find ourselves in. You are in the best hands and will be able to get this sorted once and for all. Hoping for good news for you.
Good morning Nicky,
