Hi everyone
57yr old diagnosed with cancer in tonsil current halfway through Radiotherapy and chemo.
Feeling absolutely miserable with the pain in my mouth.
Nothing touches it
I've just read your blog. OMG! I couid have written it. My experience was almost identical to yours. You describe it perfectly. I too diarised most of my treatment. One of the things that sticks in my mind though was how frightened I was of the mask. I needed a sedative to have it fitted (irrational) I know! It wasn't until week 4 that someone suggested cutting the eye holes on, although I'd kinda got used it by then, it was a good send. Don't know why they didn't suggest it earlier. I too was admitted to the hospital exactly one year today with 10 sessions of radiotherapy left. I understand your experience exactly and mine was quite similar. X
Hey… but we got through, didn’t we? AND help others here which, to me, is an awful lot if the battle.
Keep going. It really is worth it … oh and thanks you for being so kind about the blog.

Hi Nige
Gelclair acts like a barrier sticking to sores in the mouth. If you have thrush and are sore it might help. It’s worth trying while. Your antifungals get to work.

Don’t move out of hospital after RT till they write you up something better for pain relief. Pack an overnight bag in case they want to keep you in.

I’m so sorry to hear of all this pain that you’re going through. I was fortunate that I barely needed pain medications during my treatment nor recuperation. Having said that in week 3 of RT when my taste changed I also developed pain in the roof of my mouth for which my oncologist prescribed Pregabalin which was effective from within minutes of taking it. It had to be introduced gradually, the dosage increased gradually and after a week or two I no longer needed it but I noticed there hasn’t been any mention of this pharmaceutical so I wonder if it might be worth discussing with your nurse & oncologist just in case it might help?
