Fir your hpv+ diagnosis, what stage were you when diagnosed. And is a later stage hpv dx harder to cure?
T2N0M0
Our cancer us staged using TNM
Any cancer is harder to cure the more advanced it is.
More advanced HPV oropharyngeal SCC is treated more vigourously. Chemotherapy with cisplatin and sometimes an extra week of RT are added to the usual six weeks
Having nodes involved is still treated as non advanced
I had no nodal involvement so had just six weeks of radiation

I would add that it’s not harder for the oncologist but harder on the patient.

I only had one lymph node that was cancerous and have been perfectly fine since treatment. Your husband will be as well.
What the localised to one node means is that they have found the cancer in just one of many, many lymph nodes in the neck. The lymph node was doing it's job of catching the cancer cells, which is good.
Yes.
You’ve had replies from Hazel for example. She had seven lymph nodes affected. Are you worried your husbands cancer is advanced? I’m sure you’ve been told that it’s not.
You have to believe his team.

Ive explained this. It's a stage description T tumour size. N nodes involved M distant metastasis
the size of the primary tumour (T)
whether the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes (N)
whether the cancer has spread to another part of the body (M)
The letters at the top of your husbands notes also have AJCC
The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging manual has become the benchmark for classifying patients with cancer, defining prognosis, and determining the best treatment approaches
It's classification system adopted around the world so oncologists all speak the same language

T1 N1 M0
I don’t know if it helps anyway but that later changed to PT1 N1 M0 which my nurse explained was because they had removed the primary from me and sent it to pathology and received the pathology report (P) which helps identify the aggressiveness and more accurately determine staging.
With my staging a received two surgeries and 6 weeks of RT.
