So I new hi, I’m about to start my journey.

Theyve found malignant cells in my lumps below ear lobe and end of jaw bone (rather large painful lump) now referred to ent and waiting to get called in for chat.

my question is what was peoples wait times for this to happen? I’ve not actually spoke to or seen any one it’s all been done with letters, so had scans mri Fna’s now waiting. My theory being if all this was so serious would I not have been in sooner??

  • Hi

Sorry to see you here but this is a good place to be for help.
Squamous cell carcinoma is an aggressive cancer but not invasive distantly so try not to worry about any wait. I’m presuming that’s what has been found in your lymph nodes. There is a tried and tested pathway for this. Referral to ent suggests they are looking for the primary cancer in your throat which is where it is found most if the time.
You should be seen at ENT within a couple of weeks.
Dint worry about a delay. I was diagnosed in a September and my RT didn’t start till mid December. I’m fit and well over six years later.
You’ll have lots of questions so stay with us and don’t panic. Thus sort of cancer has a cure rate of over 90%

  • Hi and welcome.

I think everyone has a different path, some are very similar but a lot of the time there’s differences between the cases.

I had the lump, doctors appt within a month and I was referred to hospital within 3 weeks. At that appt it was a nose endoscopy thing and a week later I had a FNA.

one week after the FNA I got the call to say what it was. After that I had approximately 3 weeks between getting three scans done before I was on the operating table.

Some people have timelines on their profiles, check them out as they may give you an idea. I honestly don’t think they arrange appointments based on it being serious or not, I think it’s all just down to workload but I could be wrong about that. Try not to worry too much. Once the waiting is over, things do tend to move fast

  • Thank you for your reply I’ll type out what the initial letter said. Had big words in it (submandibulr) can’t remember the rest

  • Thank you all this is helping not worry “to much” and makes a bit of sense
