  • Hi I gave up drinking around 15 years before diagnosis  ( alchol gave  me migraines ) and was a light smoker less than 10 a day around to 16 years before I got diagnosed

    .

theres no rhyme nor reason to HPV I know many who have never smoked or drunk and still diagnosed.

  • I just worry because my husband has been a smoker for years and was diagnosed as a smoker. I am scared about his scan coming up in April.

    Hi

Smoking comes with its own dangers....hopefully the scan will show that the treatment has worked...was his pre-treatment scan OK?

Even after quitting I have been subjected to second hand smoke many times....sadly this is unavoidable...and some think this may contribute to a small increase in the risk to us

  • Yes pretreatment scan was good but . A tiny nodule 3 mm on left lower lung in nov 2024 and the one before that which was 9 mos ago was the same size. Has not grown.

This cancer responds really well to RT and cure rates are in excess of 90%. Treatment failure is rare, so that’s where you are with your husband

Recurrence ( ie cancer coming back later on) is higher in ex smokers that’s for sure but it is what it is and there is nothing you can do except make sure he never smokes again and doesn’t drink to excess.

That is positive news...I would be hopeful that the treatment has worked its magic.

I had the same except I had two nodules and they were bigger.
