I have stage 1 head neck oropharynx cancer. Just finished treatment a month ago. Waiting for pet scan.
anyway has anyone developed lung cancer in addition to hpv head and neck? I’m afraid this is happening to me. I won’t find out until the pet scan in April. Back in nov they found a lung nodule, very small 3mm but everything I read says it’s very common to have metastasis to lung. I’m so afraid. Dr originally said thos was highly curable cancer. But I doubt it will be if it spread to my lung!!

Wherever you are reading that is wrong. It is UNcommon for the cancer to spread distantly. IF it does the most common place is the lungs.
Stage 1 is very early. You are lucky to have been diagnosed as such. Don’t Google. It’s giving you incorrect info
I re mentioned to you elsewhere that I had two modules bigger than that. They are very common and due to chest infections in the past.

I am confused by your reply
What I’m saying is that HPV+ SCC does not often metastasise to anywhere but the neck lymph nodes. Rarely does it spread distantly to other organs. On the rare occasions it does the most common place is the lungs. But distant metastasis is RARE

Hi Markmac,
Dani is right, nodules in the lung are quite common. Prior to treatment last year, my surgeon told me he had found lung nodules which were due to a previous infection (bronchitis) from many years previously.
Also, HPV+16 SCC usually always spreads to nearby lymph nodes first, which is where I had metastases. Distant metastasis is rare.
also, as Dani said, stage 1 is a very early and localised, you are very fortunate it was caught that early and therefore makes your treatment all the more successful in cure.

Ty I’m just scared because my last chest ct which I have yearly was normal. And before my treatment for hpv + 16 oropharynx, they did a ct scan prior and they found this module and can’t do anything because it’s too small plus after the treatments they won’t be able to see anything due to the inflammation from treatment so I have to wait until April. I e had no Illness to give me any kind of nodule. That’s what frightens me
do you think if the nodule was cancer that the chemo I had for hpv wd have killed it?
Don’t panic!
after I was diagnosed with base of tongue cancer I was sent for a ct scan and a 5mm nodule/tumour was found in my lung.
lung consultant said worst case scenario he could remove it with keyhole surgery.
having finished chemo and radio I then had another ct scan and was told there had been a significant reduction of the tumour in my lung and they weren’t concerned anymore.
i will need another scan in a few months.
I agree with everyone here that google is not the place to find answers.
