Just been told today that I have squamous cell cancer in the base of my tongue.
I'm still in shock as its been 4-5 weeks of testing.
I am told this is very treatable as its in one place and not spread so far.
the next stage is to see if I need any teeth taken out.
this scares me as I have always had good teeth.
has anyone been through this without teeth taken out?
also I'm told to eat lots of fat foods before and during treatment
I am already slim and eat healthy, so scared that I will waste away. any tips or advise would be gratefully received?
thanks you
Stephen
p.s I feel lucky to have found this site as it seems any people have got through this.
Hi Stephen don’t worry my lump I discovered in March 2018 ( hindsight is wonderful) I was cycling in Spain perfectly fit healthy no other issues I thought i had pulled a muscle. Blissfully finished our holiday saw go next day after getting home and 5 mins later in pathway hnc cancer. My treatment started exactly 62 days later. Chemo radiotherapy is the gold standard treatment for our cancer I had no surgery apart from biopsy. I’m looking at 7 years this year. So don’t stress there’s lots if us on here same pathway

I was diagnosed in November 2019, went on holiday to the USA for 3 weeks and had the first treatment in early January. The delay was sort of self imposed but did not harm me. Recently I had CRT for a "new" tumor at base of tongue that was not treated surgically and following that I have received the all clear.
another question -
did anyone get tinnitus after chemo? - if so, did it go after a wheel?
I already have slight tinnitus in my left ear and don't want to make it worst but if the other drug isn't as good that might be a problem
ive been told there are two types and one does have this side effect in some people
yep, I always had a touch of tinnitus probably caused by loud concerts and loud pipes on my Harleys.. lol.. but yes, it did become more 'intense' after treatment
