Hello everyone a little history I am 63 years old I have had bowel cancer 2 years ago had chemo radiotherapy and so far so good !! I have really struggled with oral thrush for 6 mouths. As soon as the treatments give a couple of days my thrush is back. Done everything advised to do still it returns. My GP is now concert could be cancer and is speaking to the others gps and I gave another appointment where she says she wants to refer me to oncology. I’ve had a few scars, found lumps and pain in left breast, put on the pathway tests don’t given the all clear. So relieved! Now this I had no idea thrush can be a sign of an oral cancer?! Anyone else any information or advice or experience of this. Thank you very much.
Can I ask what antifungals you are getting and does it disappear after treatment?

I know it can be a side effect of treatment but not a cause, but because your GP isn't sure it's thrush after all a biopsy is probably sensible.
If you are referred to maxillofacial or ENT they will be able to hopefully put your mind at rest

Hi morning thanks for the reply. They have tried a few different ones the yellow liquid can’t remember the name begins with N I’ve had quite a few times. Also tablet forms I’m on Fluconazole at the moment. Each treatment works great while on. Unfortunately it appears a few days later the horrible taste comes first then the burning sensation on the tongue then I check again in the mirror and there it is. All over my tongue back of my throat and on my tonsils. They have cracked for done blood tests all fine. I am on a lot of medications 17 a day and asthmatic on steroids. Also for my fibromyalgia. My white blood cells are a little low and have dropped only a little more again so they are changing some new medication for my trigeminal neuralgia for a different one. But they say all of this should not cause continuous thrush! It’s complicated I know but I’m now scared there could be another cancer somewhere.
That’s a lot to be dealing with. Fibromyalgia is so badly understood and sympathy is lacking too. No wonder you’re scared. Steroids and thrush? Hopefully you’ll get an answer.

Hi GreenNanny. I do hope that you get some resolution soon. I had thrush for 3 months and tried all the over the counter preparations and also a prescription tablet that you suck but it just wouldn't clear up. My specialist dentist told me to try a mouthwash made of salt and bicarb and it worked a treat after a couple of weeks. Apparently it changes the flora in your mouth so the thrush can't thrive anymore. I used the mouthwash 4 times a day and am still using it and have had no further recurrences. Might be worth a try.
