Hi
I have had a very sore throat and difficulty in speaking since 22nd October 24. 39 days. I've had 2 courses of antibiotics and no improvement. My throat is so sore and I can barely speak.
I've now had an urgent referral to the hospital. When the referral was made I could see the computer screen in the Doctor's office and the word 'cancer' was on the form in several places.
My hospital appointment came through yesterday - it's in 12 days.
I'm OK but I keep getting big waves of anxiety that come and go. I'm doing my best to trust the process, I know I am in good hands, it's not easy though
Does anyone have any tips about how to cope with the waiting.
Thank you so much for reading this and thank you in anticipation for any responses
Trish
Hi Trish.
First, the cancer pathway is the standard two week urgent referral.
90% are not cancer.
If you do have oral cancer most of it is caused by HPV virus and the treatment, though tough, has a 95% cure rate
Right that’s the stat stuff out of the way
All you can do is keep busy with the things you enjoy. Get some fresh air. Don’t look for answers on Google.
if you aren’t sleeping see if your GP can give you something to help.
Take somebody in with you for your appointment and don’t leave till you understand everything that’s said.
If you need us stay with us. There’s lots of help here.
This waiting is one if the worst times. It passes.
Hugs
