Diet during radiotherapy to the neck

I was given Fortisip by my hospital when I couldn’t eat. Up till then I just ate proper food. Does your partner need to put on weight before starting? 

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. My partner has Crohns disease, Diverticulitis and a Hiatus hernia which, all combined, really restricts his diet already. His weight has been at 9 stone for years and I'm so concerned about him losing weight. I know this will happen so the  dietician recommends the whey protein powder and high carb diet to try and prevent as much weight loss as possible.

Oh, so sorry. That makes it tough. He should get proper support from his dieticians. Hopefully somebody who has personal experience will join in. Meanwhile I’ll have a look through some past posts for you.

Hi, my husband also has diverticulitis and found the Nutricia drinks seemed to cause oral thrush. I put him on Impact whey protein powder which I bought from MyProtein. It’s flavourless and I added it to milk for cereals etc and in soups. We found it to be very good.

I use Organic Whey Protein powder from The Organic Protein Co. It’s flavourless and free from a lot of the nasty ingredients that are found in a lot of protein powders. I just put it in smoothies etc. might be worth a look.

My daughter gave us some of this and I mix it with the milk for my husbands Weetabix and also put a scoop in his soup last night and he doesn’t notice it but his senses of taste is not brilliant at the moment
