Hi All

I was bought a humidifier for Christmas as my mouth is always dry (especially at night) I have been using it but can't say I have really noticed any difference.

Does anyone have experiences or tips they can share?

Should I continue with it?

Many thanks as always X

  • Hi

Himidifuers can help but you need something for your mouth directly. Saliva production slows right down in the night anyway but it’s worse for us.

I used to be able to sip water in my sleep but a better thing to try is a pocket water spray. It just moistens your mouth without washing saliva away.
I use one xylimelt tucked into my cheek at night. That really helps but my real bugbear now is that as I’m much more relaxed I tend to sleep with my mouth open so I have started taping it shut. This has been a game changer. I do t wake and my mouth is moist enough to keep me comfortable

  • Hi Dani

I have tried xylimelt without great success but I have to say the thought of you going to bed with your mouth taped up really made me laugh! (I might try that on the wife but not for saliva lol)

    Thanks for your reply x

  • Hi how far into recovery are you ? In first year I used a full xyimelt every night some people use 2. Now I just use 1/2 of on3. Yiu can buy a small spray bottle and when you wake try a. Spray if water thus tip as been passed on by a late onset side  effect nurse from Nottingham gram instead of sipping water which washes any saliva away. You can use it through the daytime as well, are yiu drinking enough water inwas drinking 2-3 litres everyday .plus chew sugar free chewing gum.

I’ll elaborate. I use a half inch tape from nose to under my bottom lip so the sides of my lips are free

  • I don't know about everyone else but I am not really getting it, I think a photo might help LMAO

  • I can no longer use Xylimelts since my most recent op but have found that Biotene dry mouth gel works well. When I wake up with a dry mouth which happens every night I put a dab of it on a cotton bud and put it on my tongue. I find it moistens things up nicely and then I can get back to sleep. You can get other dry mouth gels such as Oral 7. They all work fairly well but don't put too much on as I have found it can get very gluggy and can irritate your throat leading to lots of coughing.
