Hi. I was diagnosed with cancer in my tongue recently and an operation is scheduled for 9th September. I am still dazed by the speed at which this is all happening and I am not yet able to grasp the reality of my situation. i suppose I am concerned about the extent of spread to nodes etc that is found during the operation and then coming to in a much worse scenario than imagined. I don't know how things will be after the operation and how I will be able to cope with that. Any advice will be really welcome. Many thanks.
Hi again, Johnny.
What operation are you having? Are you having a neck dissection and have you had a PET/CT . Sorry for the questions but it will help folk give you honest answers
Hello Dani thanks for the reply. A lump removed from the edge of my tongue and an investigation of the lymph nodes is all I know. Apparently at Queens Medical Centre they don't cut necks for this! (i hope!) I had CT, MRI and X-ray scans. Don't know if there ere any PETs involved.
Hello michael. Thank you for responding. I haven't been told it's HPV related and no mention has been made of any therapies so far. I have a pre op on Tuesday and will clarify it all then.
Johnny
