Husband has finished treatment and has been given flamazine to use on his neck which is extremely inflamed and tissue appears to be blackening and weaping.  We were told this would be normal but how do we clean the skin? Is he able to shower as normal and then re-apply or do we need to keep the area dry at all times and just reapply?

  • Hi JBu

what I would do is ring the hospital. They might suggest something better like Polymem which is what a few people with weeping RT burns had.
You can clean the skin gently in the shower and pat dry before applying the Flamazine.
I’ll tag Hazel who had quite nasty burns too. That’s what she was given

  • So glad he’s finished the treatment.  I developed quite nasty burns in the last week or so of RT and was given Flamazine gel. I’m sorry I can’t remember whether I was allowed to shower between applications but what I will say is that, although it looked a real mess, it worked an absolute treat. Every best wish for a speedy recovery. M

  • Hi I was told not to use anything apart from the polymem bandage when I burn and blistered. I coujd shower but use nothing apart  from Luke warm water ost dry thrn put the bandage back on. Give the team a call

  • My neck was badly burnt weeping and black looking, my wife gently bathed it with cooled boiled water, then applied the Flamazine, it worked great and cleared it up in a very short time. It's good he has finished his treatment, and now on the road to recovery.

  • We're in the same situation.  End of week 6 (of 7) and given 4 tubes of Flamazine - and a selection of "stuff" loose in a bag containing 7 wooden spatulas, 7 pairs blue gloves and 7 (what look like) dressings within blue/white gauze.  So assume not to be applied by fingers.  We're standing here trying to puzzle it out!

    Any advice please!

  • I just applied it by hand like any other lotion or cream. Like Ray (Old Biker) says, it worked very quickly.

I’ve heard from various people that there was huge improvement in a week; enough to stop the Flamazine.

  • It does work very quick, there was a massive improvement in about a week.

  • Hi, the nurse said that if I was applying the cream to him I should wear gloves and if he can do it himself them to just apply using his hands, after washing them of course.  We didn't get any dressings so will see how it goes.

  • I just smeared it on liberally.  No dressings. I had some collarless shirts which I wore so it didn’t get everywhere as it was quite messy. Good luck with it.
