My dad had lazer treatment on his voice box he was sent for the ivor lewis esophagectomy. Major life changing operation. He had radiotherapy on his larynx. He then had to have a stoma and become a larynjectomy. He has been to hell and lived through hell and still is. He has had it all. Infections fistulars Throat dilations stents. Never no let up. His been in hospital several times over the years. Its been hard very hard. All the way. He couldn't use his speech valve. He had to be kneel by mouth several times. His throat closed up. He has to tube feed. He has had problems with salava in his mouth. That he can not swollow a salava tube fitted and taken out. We not long found out that there is infact some blockage further down. My dads been told there's nothing they can do for him. He can't talk only with a microphone. Can't eat or drink. Has to conatantly clean his valve and nebulise to help clear the salava. Day and night. And tube feed through the day and night. He has since had bleeding come up from the stoma. Often and frequently. He had some scans done. We been told the cancer is back. Clyincally they can't biopsy or get anything down my dads throat. To say what it is. He has medicine he puts through his tube everyday. He has medicine to help clot the blood but not to much so he can't breath. My dad has bought up clots. We been told it could spread to his chest or choke him. My dads left arm has swelled. Breaks my heart. Strong as an ox.. a warrior. His been to war and come out of it with no quality of life. He doesn't go out unless he has to for hospital. He told me that i should know he has had it. That he isn't well. That he can't go on. That surly there must be something someone can do. My dads 84 now his been living this 10 years now. I cam see him giving up and getting tired. Strongest man I know. He would still be working of it wasn't for the cancer. He can't socialise. He can't eat Cant drink hia days are made up of cleaning medications nebulising. His stoma is so small he doesnt think he gets enough oxygen. It just breaks my heart its so cruel and evil .
Morning Bluebell
Can I first say how sorry I am for your dire situation.
The members here are largely under treatment, recovering or recovered well though there are a few who have nursed parents through and may pop on with some words.
There is a group for folk supporting someone with incurable cancer. It's very active and you'll probably get more help there.
Just click on the link I've made in red.
All my best wishes
Dani
