Hello, wonder if anyone could offer any advice? My daughter was seen by ent due to ear pain/headaches (ongoing for a while), retracted ear drums, said she needed grommets but would be a long wait, anyhow then decided to do the camera through nose and saw something he wasn’t expecting, patches on her vocal cords, sent straight to pre op and told a biopsy would be taken under ga within 2 weeks but they’d do the grommets at the same time, it was all a bit chaotic, daughter tried to ask what was seen and what it meant but was just told needed biopsy and wasn’t connected to ear problems. He’d see her again about 2 weeks after the biopsy, looked to have been caught early but never actually said it was cancer. So she went yesterday as daycase, wasn’t allowed anyone with her, was told they may just take photos or may do a biopsy, when she came round, she was in a lot of pain and not really with it, was told eardrums were a mess, couldn’t do the grommets and ears needed to be carefully monitored, re her voicebox, they said they’d cut it all away, and was more dominant on one side. She’s not allowed to speak for 2 days so they wouldn’t let her ask anything, but wasn’t with it enough to think straight anyway. She had really low bp and needed oxygen for a while, daycase was closing and it was again chaotic as they were trying to find a bed for her somewhere. But no one told her what it actually was they’d cut away, she tried asking nurse who said it didn’t say in her notes, said she’d be seen in about 4 weeks, when she questioned waiting 4 weeks to be seen again the nurse agreed it was a long while and to ring.ent to get an earlier appointment and she was finally sent home at 11pm. Discharge letter says she had eua on both ears, microlaryngoscopy and biopsy. But nothing else. We left messages with ent secretary today but no one’s called back. She’s stressed out and terrified, and has no idea what to do next or if this means she has cancer or what else it could be if not. She’s been googling for the last 2 weeks which is the worse thing to do but because no one’s telling her anything she’s desperate for some answers. She’s just 29. Sorry for long post. Can anyone offer any advice or had a similar experience?
Sorry to hear such a long tale of woe.
First laryngeal cancer in somebody your daughters age is unlikely so hold onto that
If she has a biopsy then results will take 2 weeks so 4 seems a little too long. I should think the consultant would be reluctant to say he suspected cancer. It probably isn’t as he/she would certainly say they were looking for it.
There are a wide range if benign vocal cord lesions
I suggest you phone the consultant’s secretary on Monday to find out what’s going on.
Be firm and Insist on an answer.
Good luck and let us know how you get on
