Hi all, thanks for welcoming me into this community. I am new to this world. I was diagnosed with hpv tonsil cancer last month with a nearby swollen lymph that didn’t show as cancerous in any scans but caused some obvious concern. Tumour is stage 2 but as it seemed to be a contained tumour it was agreed surgery would be worth a try first so we can biopsy the equivocal lymph node. Then chemoradiation or just radiation if needed (or possibly no further action but not sure how I feel about this). Anyway, I’m 5 days post surgery and in agony but the inability to swallow is driving me mad and I’m rapidly losing weight that I can’t afford to lose. I choke or spray everywhere. I really don’t want a tube and can’t even stomach ensures. Any tips to get swallowing back on track as quickly as possible?
Dani/Hazel - I feel like I already know you both as I read your blogs about a month ago when I was first diagnosed :-)
Ah bless, you’ll know we are legends, then
I remember all too well how full of despair I was in the early days. Strangely the pain has gone just like childbirth but the fear is still clear in my mind.
Like hazel says, we all help each other. The physical battle is easy the pain transient the mental battle is something else. You’ll get there a day at a time.

Before my diagnosis not one if my friends and famiky heard of h p v oral cancer now we’ve a whole community!
Yes throat cancer was always either an old man’s disease or an alcoholic’s wasn’t it. HPV has crept in like a thief in the night. At least in 50 years vaccination would have made it a thing of the past.

I like to think of you as the Batman and Robin of the group, always first on the scene when someone's in trouble

Yes it was plus smoker. Although online it’s made out that we are sex fanatics as well! As we know it’s caused stress amongst some of the guys on here whose partners accused them of having multiple affairs !

This is so reassuring Helen, thanks so much. It’s funny isn’t it, I’ve wanted to shed half a stone for a long time but now it’s gone I don’t want to lose any more and I’m panicking! Not helped by the fact that one of my daughters has an eating disorder so it’s very triggering for her if I’m thinner than she is as I’ve always had that little bit extra weight. Sounds like it will get easier soon either way x
Oh yes - seems my 73 year old mum had a look online and read that it’s only transmitted through oral sex and then called to ask if I’ve been naughty! I’m 47! Mortifying.
Love the Batman Robin analogy - what a great team you must be x
