Good Afternoon,
This is my 2nd Post - Oh my! Thank you - everyone was so helpful in respect of my post.
Hubby goes tomorrow to specialist dentist for teeth to be checked (for sure he'll need work as our own Dentist indicated this) my concern is - he has radiation Mask Moulding at 11.30am tomorrow also with CT Treatment Planning thereafter) I'm concerned if they decide ant teeth need pulled, it'll change 'size' of mask. Also Radiation is scheduled to start 2 weeks from today - do you think this will be delayed whilst any tooth extraction areas heal? Sorry for rambled message.
Ooh it's us six weeks daily RT (weekends off) 2 cycles of Cgemo - overnight stays for this. Are you allowed to accompany family member to 'Chemo Days' thank you
Hi KKat. I’m sure your hospital dentist and radiology department will work together. Mine did.
As for chemo days no you’re not likely to be able to go with him.
The chemo itself is likely to be pretty uneventful. He might need his “hand held”for a few days after but most people are fairly ok
Get him to take a book or a tablet as well as his phone. They do provide a sandwich or such but while he’s eating he might like to take something you make him.

Dear KKat,
i know is all quit confusing, but i saw my maxiiollfacial surgeon two weeks ago. Not even two weeks after my robotic surgery, they told me to have another surgery, as they want/need to remove my 2 crowns and prepare them for implants, and 3 wisdom tooth (they were im a good state, but dr thinks its better for my hygiene), anyway I wasn’t mentally ready as still in the pain from surgery and want to recover before. I had operation last Friday, today i had mask done, even bit swollen.
My oncologist gave me a call today, and he postponed my appointment for radiotherapy (should started on 8th June), to 13th June saying have to recover properly.
I believe it will be same with your hubby.
i wouldn’t think they will start treatment before be sure he is ok with dental.
good luck
pls let us know how was it!

Hi KKat,
When I had my pre-RT dental check, I was asked if I would prefer my remaining teeth removed. After them telling me what might happen, I decided to keep what I have and I am glad that I did as I had no adverse reaction dentally.
With regards to the mask, after the 4th week of RT, I had lost so much weight that the mask was a bit loose but they chose to continue using my chin as a point of reference until completion.
Best Wishes to your Hubby
Onwards & Upwards.

Hi As Daninsays they wil work together m if he does need extractions a few weeks won’t make a difference to treatment if it needs delaying for him to heal. As for chemo they are long boring days nothing you can do,Mine we’re pretty covid and husband could have stayed I sent him home to come back later. That was the first day he cried when he left me and realised the enormity of what I was going through. Of course he didn’t tell me that until a year afterward soppy soul.. Just be there for him a little pampering ,although I was fine both occasions just make sure he takes the medication they give him as we all know men aren’t great at taking meds.
I had 7 weeks of radiotherapy and 2 chemo.
Here I am almost 4 years later living my life happily
Keep us in loop as to how he is

Hi KKat - I was told that healing from extractions needed 3 weeks before RT starts. I'm potentially in same position, where the oncologist is following up on a dental check I had as I have a partially erupted wisdom tooth x2 (either side of upper jaw). So I'm a bit concerned that if they don't get them out pronto my treatment will be pushed back, which is frustrating...
Hope your husband gets sorted and can begin soon.

Oh Yeah, who says?
Hi KKat. I’m sure the Dental Specialist will explain everything in detail tomorrow - the reasons why it’s important to consider removing teeth prior to radiotherapy, and whether or not they would recommend any extractions for your husband. Unless he has a large number of teeth removing extractions are very unlikely to alter the fit of the mask. If he needs any removing, then it’s ideally a couple of weeks for healing post-extraction before they will want to start his treatment. There could be a really small delay, but wait & see what they say tomorrow. The Team will be experienced in dealing with situations like your husbands - and he not need any extractions.

Hi Hilary, good to see you back. How's life?
Mine's good. Over three years now and only two more appointments with oncologist ( I'm shared with MaxFac). Looking forward to snipping that umbilical but apprehensive about a life unfettered by hospital appointments. My dentist makes up for it and pokes about with manic zeal

Hi Dani. All good with me thanks. 4.5 years and only 1 final review to go in November (I hope!) Likewise, not sure how I feel about no more ENT follow ups - good and bad. Had a melanoma removed from back last month, so other things to think about (and more follow ups!). Somerset Head & Neck Patient Group continues - great to meet others with similar experiences in person and online, so much to share and learn from each other. Keep up your fantastic work - this forum rocks. So many great contributors.
