Hi All
Was diagnosed with a tumour of the larynx on the 17th have had ct scan mri and a biopsy on the 23rd which havent had the results for yet has been a very scary time for me but am trying to take every day as it comes have been told i need an ultrasound in the new year
Have been on this site for a few days and it so nice that people take time to advise others who are just starting on this road and have taken heed not to google did a few times and really scared me so only come here for advice as it has helped me so much as prediagnosis is so hard.
Many Thanks

Hi Chris only too happy to help. You can’t beat first hand knowledge. In the scheme of things our cancers are fairly rare. No one I knew had heard of it before my diagnosis.

Laryngeal cancer is much more rare than oropharyngeal. I think the statistics according to CRUK are
1 in 188 UK males and 1 in 834 UK females will be diagnosed with laryngeal cancer in their lifetime.
1 in 55 UK males and 1 in 108 UK females will be diagnosed with oral cancer in their lifetime.
Most OP cancer is due to HPV virus now that smoking rates are much lower.
It's the sixth most common cancer diagnosed. We don't hear about it because education is sorely lacking. Even now that there is a vaccine against HPV the stress is on preventing cervical cancer in women. Vaccination is free in this country, cervical cancer rates are going down in young women and disease rates will come down in the other cancers it causes as they years go by
I hadn't really heard much about it either except that one of my hero's (Graham Chapman) died of it...but then he drank like fish and smoked like a chimney. I knew about it and indeed diagnosed my own cancer as soon as I found it.
