Hi, my friend has had 4 weeks of radiotherapy. He is back home four weeks now and he says he can feel sensation like a piece of meat floating/tickling the back of his throat. He wanted to ask if this was a normal sensation. We don’t see consultant for a check up until the 17th dec. we wondered if it was the tumour shrinking. Any guidance would be most grateful. Thank you

  • Hi Cailin. How is his voice? That's more of an indication of things

We tend to feel all sorts of things as we heal from radiotherapy. I think only your friend's doctor can comment really.Your friend's appointment is only just over a week away so not long to wait. Fingers crossed everything is OK

    Best wishes

  • Hi Cailin I’m about 8 weeks after my radiotherapy treatment for stage 1 vocal chord cancer..I had the exact same sensation very weird it felt like something flapping around and it was worse when I coughed..That has gone now plus I had the camera 2 weeks ago and there’s no sign of the cancer Blush..I would recommend warm salt water gargling and steaming. I hope this helps your friend and anything else I can help with just ask good luck…

Hi Dani, thank you so much for your message, Michael’s  voice was terrible when he got back, a whisper only, now his voice is strong and clear; it’s unbelievable, his neck is great too and eating lots and tasting also very good.
the pain comes on him very suddenly with the nights being the worst but during the day he has improved so much.

Hi  rie you have vocal chord removed

  • Hi Michael

Sorry to hear about your cancer. I had cancer on my vocal chord and had radiotherapy. Now I'm in recovery. Hope your cancer is all gone now.

Do you have have a voice still? My voice has been affected, but I have been told it is early days so I assume it will improve more as time goes on.

  • Hi Kaye sorry I’m only just getting back to you it’s been a while since I have been on here. I lost my voice for a while but it’s come back fine now. I am just suffering with a throat infection at the minute which got me so paranoid thinking the bloody cancer was coming back!!…..just take it day by day Kaye and look after your throat the best you can-I had manuka honey in hot water and gargled with warm salt water.hope your on the mend take care x

  • Hi Michael

Hope your throat infection clears quickly. I've now been told that they can't tell me whether my voice will be back to normal. Basically how ever it is after a year is how it will be. I finished treatment last August so it's heading to nearly a year.

My worry is that I am a carer so I need my voice for work.  Have to wait and see.

    Thanks for responding.

Take that with a pinch of salt. I'm still getting improvements three years after RT. Lots of us do
