Hi,
My Dad was recently diagnosed with throat cancer - this came as quite a shock to myself and my family. Since the diagnosis I've been struggling to cope and process what's happened. There's a lot of worry about what will happen, especially as he will be starting treatment soon.
I took a couple of days off work last week as I've been feeling physically and mentally strained as I'm also trying to make sure that everyone around me is ok. I was wondering if anyone knows of any suitable support for my family and my Dad as he goes through this. This still feels like a very surreal experience, so I do appreciate any forms of support.
Thank you.
Hi Nae and welcome to the community. Sorry you have found yourself here.
Please stay with us and you will find a fair bit of help advice and support here in this community. No question is silly.
HERE is the main support page on Macmillan. You might like to browse through.
Also the support line is open from 8am to 8pm every day 0808 808 00 00 and you can find somebody to talk to there.
Maggies Centres are located all over the UK and there may be one near your Dad's hospital. They are great drop in centres with lots of support, holistic help or just a friendly face and a cuppa. They are open to patients and carers
You can also contact THE SWALLOWS Head and Neck Cancer Support Group which is manned 24 hours a day. There's no computer voices to get through just a proper person ...Sharon. They have saved many a crisis in the middle of the night so don't be frightened of calling them. Chris, Sharon's husband, is a throat cancer survivor himself. Most of the calls they get are actually from carers like yourself.
Just click on the red links I've created take you to the relevant websites
Best wishes and keep in touch

Also....your Dad will have been allocated a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) make sure you have the contact number. Mine has been great and has helped me whenever I needed it. It will be worth making sure your Dad has allowed his medical team to speak with you about his condition too.
