Hello all

I have been reading through lots of your posts and have found them both informative and comforting.

My husband is starting week 5 tomorrow of 6 weeks radiotherapy and 5 weeks chemotherapy.

He had a nasal gastric tube fitted at the end of week 3 and is now pretty much using that for meds and nutrition.

Does the treatment in your experience continue to get progressively difficult or does it level out around now? The oncologist mentioned that if it gets too much, he will be admitted but I’m not sure what he meant by that?

  • H i welcome to our forum

I too had n g tube fitted end of week 3. I kept it in for the first 3 weeks of recovery. You need to be hydrated and kerp uo the nutrients by any means . Possibly what he meant was if hubby is struggling to keep hydrated and enough nutrition he will be admitted and put on a drip it does happen then he will have his treatment while in hospital. The treatment continues to work for several week s after it’s not an easy ride but I am 3 years post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes and living my life. Keep him hydrated fed and put his meds through the tube.
he’s now at the stage where it starts to ramp up seriously

    Any questions just ask

Thank you for your reply Hazel, I’m pleased that your treatment was successful and that you are able to help so many others on here, thank you!

  • Hi Sophie

Yes Hazel is spot on about the possible need for admission to hospital. In week 4 of my radiotherapy treatment I became dehydrated and was in hospital for a week on a drip. I was taken for my radiotherapy daily while there. In fact it really helped me being in hospital as they catered for my eating needs and pain meds really well and I did not lose anywhere near as much weight as a result.

Best wishes to your husband with his ongoing treatment. He has made week 5 and although things do become difficult he is nearing the end of his treatment so he is doing really well.
