Hi - I am a year down the line since first having problems - but only diagnosed a few days ago. I have put the details in my profile if thats OK.
I have throat/neck lumps and difficulty swallowing solid foods - waiting for the results of all the scans/biopsy.
This has to be the scariest moments in my life so far - I told the guy in the hospital it is like being hit in the face with a shovel (not that I ever have been! but you know what I mean)
Doctor laughter and Doctor exercise have been my best friends till now - I have white coat syndrome and health anxiety brought on by my reaction to surgery/rehab after a skiing accident. CBT was really usefull - the mindfullness exercises/teachers made things worse because it was health anxiety - listening to my body was the last thing my mind needed to do. I pretty much had this in control for about 6 years - But now it is back -(suprise!) I call it my chimp (long story from the Chimp Paradox)
Sleeping - so this is something I would really like to try - My mind has other ideas though- and can think of at least a million scenarios that might or might not happen - and I do need to listen to it.
I hope I am able to contribute to the Forum and give something back - the resources are so useful - I would have been even more lost without them.
I remember the sleepless nights and just how debilitating they were. I was given Zopiclone to try to break the pattern. I did recover and sleep pretty well now interrupted only by the need for water due to the ubiquitous dry mouth following RT.
One thing I will say Steve is how important it is to keep up the exercise prior to, and as long as possible during, treatment. It really does speed up recovery and helps with the dreaded fatigue. Even if it’s just a daily walk it does pay real dividends.
Hi Dani
Thanks for that. Smallholding in Wales sounds good.
Steve
Hi - well I managed without sleeping tablet last night. May seem trivial achievement but big one for me. Getting hassle from gp to check BP - which they found is high - Well no suprise there then? - Problem is even the sight & thought of the machine raises my anxiety and obviously bp - bit of a vicious circle - but guess I have just got to try and do it -
We have tried to bring my second covid jab forward - GP can't help and NHS booking system says no - My wife came up with the idea - I take hers and she takes mine - So we are going to give it a try tomorrow - Just trying to take it a day a time and achieve small goals and tasks and try and restore some normality.
Hi Steve well done with sleep it’s the little things snd as you’ll find out baby steps are the way to go. . Re jab you can try plus explain to staff and sure they will face some compassion failing that tears often work ! If not have you bern giver s Macmillan or cancer nurse yet if so ring her. One day at a time is all you can fi find some box set s u like and watch that especially if weathers turning next week. We watched entire 8 series of game of thrones no idea what I watched but it distracted me.
honestly everyone will agree once you get a treatment plan everything falls into place.

Hi Steve
I don't know why your GP can't help with the Covid jab. Mine had access to the shared centre and just found me 2 slots for my wife and I within a couple of days of asking for the second jab.
Hi Hazel
game of thrones box set - excellent idea - thanks - i love that wacky sort of stuff - my wife will be on e bay looking for a box set today - she is the profficient e bayer. I have e mailed the Mac millan nurse at James Cook already but thanks for the idea. I haven't spoken on the phone yet to her - e mail seems to give me a bit of protection at the moment - think thats why finding this forum useful
cheers

Hi Peter
thanks for the info - we can't understand it either - they will do a bp check that i don't want - but can't organise a vacination Tried twice - first with the reception - then with the GP - However you have prompted us into action and my wife is on the phone now to the NHS bookings systems- so lets see how it goes.
Cheers
Steve
BP. I’m the same. White coat syndrome. I have a home monitor. If I have BP at the doctors they put down my reading and not theirs.

Hi
Is it OK that I keep posting on the end of this thread/subject?? for now? I have only had a very quick look at some posts as still bit scared of reading things on line that I don't need to at the moment so not sure what correct procedure is.
Frustrating couple of hours so came on just to try and get rid of negative thoughts - and to say thanks again to those on the forum who have replied to my posts and give advice it is really very much appreciated.
We are still trying to move my second vacination forward - I am on the NHS web site booking system Merry Go Round and aint noone using some common sense to allow any change - pass the parcel seems the order of the day. - It seems such a simple trivial thing that can be done - or am I missing something?
I phoned the Macmillan Support Line to see if anyone had come accross this problem and how they had dealt with it - but at the moment they don't have any other ideas other than what we are doing, though they are going to flag it up on their feedback system.
I have started to make a simple timetable for each day so I feel i have acheieved something, and enrolled on an on line Open Learning Course around Climate Change - just to help me focus on something else - and keep positive. We are going to get some Motivational posters so we have a visual reminder to help - and make some ourselves - Its important to try and get our minds in a more positive place - I did read on a post about walking helping as you feel you are moving forward and think this is true - The best time for me is when we are having our early morning walks - reminding myself how lucky we are to have the woods close by -
