Hello everyone,

Last year 2020 in was diagnosed with Carcinoma-in-situ RH vocal cord, i was admited to hospital in December to have laser stripping of the vocal cord. 2 weeks later had a follow up appoinment with my consultant, i was informed that the operation did not remove all of the cancer and was offerd 3 choices, wait and go for regular 6 week check ups, have more surgey which would impact on voice loss, or go and have radio therapy. Worring myself sick as to what treatment i should go for. Trying to find some one who has had similar treatment.

  • Hi there. For some reason your message doesn’t appear to showing, at least not for me. It might be worth reposting it. All the best.

  • Hi Gladstone and welcome to our community. There are a few people here who have had laryngeal radiotherapy and I’m sure they will pop on to help you. Meanwhile if you go to the search button at the top right hand if the page and enter larynx a whole load of posts will pop up. If you scroll to the bottom and go to advanced to choose the last year you have a view of the more recent ones.

  • Probably my iPad playing up. I can see it now.

  • Hi Gladstone, Have the Medical Team given you all the options and risks/damage, what stage is the cancer at first?, it sounds like a growth was on one of your vocal chords and they thought it would resolve it.

I have had a Laryngectomy, at the time I thought no way and it is a big step, but you would not be without a voice as you think, I had mine in August and in November I was back at work with a voice- I need a voice as I work for the Citizens Advice. Make sure you get the pros and cons of the therapy treatments prior to an operation as the RT can distroy so much tissue that the operation may notbe as successful as they would like-too much rebuild of the throat. If you wre to have the Laryngectomy they will offer RT after teh op-be careful I questioned very well and opte out as the damage that can do after is nearly sometimes as before. Had a check up today and they are quite happy with me and cannot get over the strength of my voice

Just keep asking the  questions !
