Hi there, I started this journey last summer after having a couple teeth pulled. I started getting canker sores on my tongue and on the floor of my mouth. And then a lump showed up and started to get bigger. My dentist checked out what was going on in my mouth and automatically referred me to a dental specialist. Thank god for my dentist! I ended up being diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma and was referred to another specialist. My cancer doctor did surgery on January, 20th, 2021 and had to remove part of my tongue and some of the floor of my mouth, but he was able to sew everything together. Was recovering from that surgery and a date came open to do the next surgery which was a selective bilateral neck dissection. That surgery was done on March, 26 of 2021. I am writing this from my hospital bed still recovering and just waiting for the drains to be removed so that I will be able to go home to start my recovery process and start doing rehabilitation exercises. I will know in about 2 weeks what the pathology is of the lymph nodes and everything that was removed. Praying for everything to be all clear.

  • Hi CeeGee, welcome to our little group of supportive helpful people who DO know how you are feeling and there are quite a few here who have had partial glossectomies. Well done on getting through all the surgery and great that you didn't need any reconstruction.

Fingers crossed everything is clear and you can avoid radiotherapy.

I didn't have a neck dissection  so can't help with the exercises but somebody will pop on to give you a hand.

    Hope you are home soon

    Best wishes
