So i have developed lymphedema and went to see the nurse yesterday so i now have 10 appointments during May and June plus massage twice per day at home ,on Wednesday i was at Scunthorpe Hospital having an x ray of my swallowing im awaiting the outcome of that .I have 2 more appointments in May with my ENT consultant and my SCN and team .I have yet to have an MRI and Pet scan these are at different hospitals .And to cap it all where my teeth were removed prior to RT i have a lot of pain in my gums and feel like i have another tooth coming through so i am at the dentist today i hope it can be cured because i am finding it difficult to chew as though eating is not difficult enough, i am also due to fly to Prauge on Monday and dont fancy having face ache while im there and i dont mean the wife lol . Anyone else had problems with teeth etc after RT ?. Kind Regards Graham
Hi Graham
Glad they have seen you reasonably quickly re the lymphoedema. I had one appointment and self managed after I was shown what to do. The massage is really effective. If you have a look at the bottom of my profile there is a link to a neck gaiter that was really good to use in conjunction with the massage.
As to teeth my only significant problem has been wearing away my front teeth due to excessive chewing in order to swallow. Once the oral surgeon had confirmed all was OK for my dentist to treat me I had that problem sorted by my routine dentist. It is not going to go away and I think they will need to fix it every so often. I do have some gum pain around a molar that was directly in the line of fire, but fortunately that is quite manageable.
Enjoy Prague. I did find on my first flight (10 months post treatment) that my lymphoedema caused so swelling - so massage it often during the flight would be my advice. A year on from then and I have absolutely no problems with flying.
