Hello. My husband was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal cancer in December. His course of treatment consists of three cycles of chemotherapy followed by six weeks of radiotherapy.
He had his first course of TPF chemotherapy on 28th January. He has reacted very badly to the chemo and collapsed at home last Thursday and rushed to hospital with neutropenia.
I am so scared of what will happen with his next course of chemotherapy.
Hi Carman. Welcome to our little group. So sorry you have had to find us. You are right to be worried but the people to ask are his medical team. Is there a chance he can be kept in isolation in hospital for example or is that actually more risky? Is the chemotherapy absolute necessary? ( I know for oropharyngeal tumours the chemo is just belt and braces with RT being the mainstay and people do have their courses cut short with no ill effect)!
All these things can be addressed by his team. Your husband will have a clinical nurse specialist assigned to him so it would be a good idea to contact them.
I hope you get some answers
Best wishes
Dani
Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi Carman,
I was diagnosed with sinus cancer and had 2 courses of TPF chemotherapy. I ended up in hospital after my first round with neutropenic sepsis. My second round of TPF was reduced, my oncologist was aware that I was admitted so when I saw her before my second round she stated this would be reduced.
I know it is very scary and there will always be that worry it will happen again. I had my second round of TPF and was fine the only trip to hospital after that round was because my nose started to bleed, I put that down to the fact I had blown my nose and possibly aggravated the tumour. Was meant to have a 3rd cycle of TPF but because of COVID last year was scrapped and started radiotherapy for 7 weeks and weekly chemo of Cisplatin.

Hi Carman I was due to have my 5th course of Cisplatin and they suggested I just go home and rest an I threw up and they said my blood levels were not right , the next day I got admitted but due to a combination of things , They did stick me in my own room to protect me and also stopped my last 2 rounds of chemo , So I suspect they might stop them also. All The Best to Your Husband and Yourself Regards Min
