Newbie!, Hi Friends, I was diagnosed last Summer, I've had treatment,33radiotherapy,1Chemo, I'm currently waiting a biopsy on the remainder hopefully this week coming, I've had a feeding tube fitted which is My backup as it were, it seems Tongue Cancer must be awkward for the Surgeons due to it's accessibility, in My case, right at the back, however, I have faith as We all must, enough of Me Thankyou.

  • Nice to meet you Tempus, but sorry about the circumstances. None of us wanted to be here, but you will find this group offers great support and help. I wish you all the best for the biopsy.

  • Hi Tempus and welcome.

I also had base of tongue cancer which was diagnosed in May 2018.  I had a robotic surgery to remove the tumour plus a neck dissection followed a few weeks later by radiotherapy.

You're right, base of tongue cancer is incredibly difficult to access for surgery which is why the gold standard treatment the last few years has been chemoradiation.  However, the hospital where I was treated has a robot  which makes surgery much easier and more accurate.

I hope the results of your biopsy are good and wish you all the best in your recovery.

  • Hi Tempus , I will wish you all the best for your Biopsy . I wasnt aware they would do a biopsy afterwards , I am just thinking will I have the same as I have or had  base of tongue cancer. Thanks Regards Min

  • Hi Marc

Post treatment biopsy isn’t standard. I had one because I had an avid PET/CT ( a hotspot) at the site of the original tumour. They didn’t find any cancer

  • Thanks Dani thats good to know the way everything has been going. Spent the day clearing blockage in Nas tube , Thanks God it cleared. All the Best Regards Min

  • Hi min nope biopsies aren’t standard. Mostly done if pet ct scan shows anything. If my n g  tube blocked we used to put a bit of Luke warm tea in via syringe to loosen the gunk if that helps x

  • Thanks Dani and Hazel . Two great tips . I spent the guts of the day and busted more syringes and it was the last call that saved the day with boiled water in the small syringe using a back and forth action. It took three different nurse to get this one in due to my throat being so sore and thats the way I was heading today. Thanks Regards Min Baking soda or bicarb was recommended also
