Hi all
My husband aged 66 had a Squamous Cell carcinoma of upper alveolar ridge removed, free flap construction from forearm into mouth, maxillectomy, neck dissection and removal of lymph nodes in neck in January this year. One lymph node was too close to carotid artery to be removed, so underwent chemoradiation.
His cheek and neck swell up intermittently and look quite red, while he has very limited opening of mouth and has been in hospital with sepsis recently.
He cannot chew because the teeth that weren't removed do not meet. Puree foods are all he manages.
I have had to book him in privately for lymphatic drainage as waiting lists are too long in Basingstoke.
Does anyone have any tips on how to manage this tightness and swelling, please?
