Awaiting Biopsy results

  1. Hi, newly joined. I had a biopsy 2 months ago, the doctor thought it was a ragged tooth that was causing an ulcer. He did the biopsy anyway. I had put it out of my mind but got letter yesterday with an appointment with consultant. It is over 5 weeks away! The letter says to discuss care and treatment and bring someone/bring my meds. Does this mean I have cancer? I have almost lost my voice and throat is killing me. Have had difficulty swallowing. Sweating at night like Never before and I’m in Menopause lol!  I noticed about 7 weeks ago i have a slight bump on both sides of my neck. Not painful. Was going to get gp App tmw to get them to Check. Would they refer to Check. I Take it they can See the results and, if so, can I ask him to Share it. The thought of waiting over 5 weeks is torture After 2 months wait since biopsy. I am so sorry for all the questions and thanks for the warm welcome x
  • Hi.
    Welcome to our community.
referrals that turn out to be cancer tend to be much speedier. However it’s not fair to make you wait so long so get on to the hospital asap and find out what’s happening.
Your GP should be able to help out too

    Good luck.

  • Thank you.

I just don’t get that they would have you wait 5 weeks if it’s nothing. The anxiety people feel must be tough! I understand this may be a confidentuality thing but i feel a telephone call is more appropriate.

Do you think it isn’t sinister based on the length of time for consultation?

    thx for replying

All I can say is that it’s really unusual to wait that long if it is urgent. There could be an admin error or there could be no need for speed. It’s difficult to be sure. I wish I could say more. I truly know how worried you are.
