referrals that turn out to be cancer tend to be much speedier. However it’s not fair to make you wait so long so get on to the hospital asap and find out what’s happening.

I just don’t get that they would have you wait 5 weeks if it’s nothing. The anxiety people feel must be tough! I understand this may be a confidentuality thing but i feel a telephone call is more appropriate.

Do you think it isn’t sinister based on the length of time for consultation?

All I can say is that it’s really unusual to wait that long if it is urgent. There could be an admin error or there could be no need for speed. It’s difficult to be sure. I wish I could say more. I truly know how worried you are. 

My dad was had biopsys done and was initially given an appointment which was on the 27 April but was called back via a phonecall the very next week to be told he'd cancer.Since then he's had multiple MRIs and cts and goes today 20 to see the team for fingers x a treatment plan.So based on the speed they acted hopefully the fact you're waiting much longer is a positive sign.Good luck

Good evening Imurray124, this is not normal to wait this long after a biopsy to see your consultant. Maybe you could ask for an earlier appointment, or if there is a cancellation. Tell them how long you have been waiting, as it's not fair on you. Good luck.

You mention a consultant appoint, what type of consultant is it?  My understanding is that consultants are specialists in a field of medicine.
