Just thought I'd do an update after mdt today. I now know my cancer is T2N0M0.hpv +.apparently small 25mm.

Decided today that as it's small , I'm a prime candidate for surgery. So that's what I've opted for ( very scary) . Apparently 85-90% it will be cured ( I'll take those odds).

Team very honest about pain etc, but once it's out I'm starting the road to recovery, in my view. They obviously can't say whether I'll need RT/chemo until after.

So should have neck dissection first in about 3 weeks to remove lymph nodes then main op about 2 weeks after that. I know I've got a long road to getbdiwn yet but feels like weight lifted off my shoulders now I know which treatment I'm facing.

Had alot of soul searching this week and am very grateful to anyone who answered my worries and anxieties.

Exactly the same as me. Except I wasn’t a candidate for surgery.
Best foot forward. Hopefully you won’t need my further treatment

  • Hi Lins,

The neck dissection sounds horrendous, but in reality it is relatively easy to recover from and often does not leave any really noticeable scarring.  I've had 2.  There may be some side effects that linger longer.  Time is the great healer in whatever aspects of treatment we have for this cancer.

Here's hoping for good clear margins!

  • I was treated at Southampton, but they used TOLS on my tongue as the position was slightly higher up and more accessible - although it had gone by the time they went in for it...

  • Hi Lins

I hope it goes well and fingers crossed they’re happy post surgery and you don’t need RT.

  • Hi Lins my husband will also start his treatment at QA Portsmouth on 10th March. He has stage 2 tonsil cancer with affected lymph nodes. He will be having 6 weeks radio alongside weekly chemo for 5 weeks. His was too large for surgery. This journey will be tough but I’m sure we’ll get through it together. Good luck and best wishes Sue
